We live in an era governed by technology, whatever you need you can either order or buy online. There’s an app for just about anything and if a company doesn’t have a social media account and website not only is it deemed irrelevant but it isn’t even considered legitimate.

Can you remember all the times you’ve needed to do something and you just wished you could find an easier way to do that online?

“I don’t have time to go to the shops today but I need a dress for tonight”. That’s ok, The Iconic has you sorted.

“I really need help with moving these boxes out of my apartment and I don’t have anybody to ask”. That’s ok, Airtasker has you sorted.

“I haven’t made dinner and the fridge is empty.” That’s ok, UberEats has you sorted.

These days, whatever service you need you can basically have it come to you without even having to speak to anyone over the phone. Just a few clicks later and consider your needs fulfilled!

Experience or Convenience

Fortunately, some people still enjoy the experience of physically visiting a shopfront and browsing, seeing, touching, choosing and buying what they desire. There’s still an innate sense of fulfillment many people feel when they enter a florist shop and that whiff of floral sweetness envelopes their noses.

However, even though many people enjoy this experience and go out of their way to visit their local florist, most of us are time poor and just can’t squeeze in that visit every single time. Let’s be honest, some people don’t even know where their nearest florist is unless they’ve come across them by driving by or walking around the shopping centre.

Online is On Time

The perpetual time drought has left people needing things done last minute and the only way to get it done last minute is finding the solution online. We’re all working longer hours at work, it’s taking us a longer time to get to and from places, we’ve got endless memberships, activities, gatherings and occasions to upkeep and attend. How do we stay on top of it all?

Picture this, your friend has organised a last-minute birthday get-together for tonight and you’re stuck for gift ideas. Flowers sound like a great option and you really want something magnificent. You can’t exactly physically visit all the florists in town to discover that amazing floral arrangement, can you? So, what do you do, like most other people these days, you browse the net for options and solutions.

Google, Facebook, Instagram… Eventually you’ll find that bouquet and it will be delivered just in time for you to pop those heels on and jet out the door for the party!

With all that being said, the next time you want to physically visit the shop for something, make sure you PLAN ahead because chances are you won’t have enough time and then you’ll buy it online, again!

Five Fascinating Facts about Florists https://www.unitingflowers.com.au/five-fascinating-facts-about-florists/ https://www.unitingflowers.com.au/five-fascinating-facts-about-florists/#respond Tue, 10 Sep 2019 13:53:08 +0000 https://www.unitingflowers.com.au/five-fascinating-facts-about-florists/ We could probably write books and essays about florists, but here's just five fascinating facts about florists you probably didn't know.

1.      They generally don’t have manicured hands

Spending all day getting their hands dirty, wet,
pricked, chafed and possibly cut means most florists don’t even bother with manicures
let alone acrylic nails! But yes, do pass them over that heavy-duty hand cream.

2.     Nothing is too dirty or too wet for
them

In a hands-on profession such as theirs, they’re
used to water, soil, thorns, dirt, pollen and glue all over them. Next time you
thought you had it tough, imagine 24 hour work days (and then some)!

3.     They’re extremely passionate, about
everything

Making people happy and brightening up their
lives with flowers is a given in their day to day KPI’s. Not only are they
obsessed with flowers but they live and breathe the joy that flowers bring
everybody and that infatuation transcends into their daily lives.

4.     They’re (exceptionally) early risers

Being a florist involves being up around 3 or 4am
to find the best flowers at the market or pick them up from their trusted
growers and then making sure all their orders are processed, organised and
arranged in time and ready for delivery by 9am.

5.     They’re unusually strong

Floristry is labour-intensive and involves
picking up, transporting, unpacking and lifting heavy plants, flowers,
arrangements and installations. While flowers and vases aren’t as light as you
might think, wedding and event styling usually involves large equipment that
needs to be transported and set up with even larger quantities of flowers!
